Blue Moon Bakery has just opened its brick and mortar store in Hillsboro, at 403 SE Baseline. and holey moley is it grand! Do you want a cup of coffee and a quick stop, or maybe longer in a window seat, with a great pastry, this is a gluten-free person’s retreat. From savory to sweet, Melissa Brue (owner) and her crew just knock it out of the park. The space may be small, but it is inviting, and comfortable, and the conversation is always pleasant. Customers are called by name, those with children are given preference in line….which makes sense if one doesn’t want cranky children in a store! It is just a great bakery, and the gluten free place to go!

It's been over ten years since I last ate gluten (on purpose anyway). Since then I have learned to bake but also make it my mission to find and try gluten free bakeries wherever I travel so when I say Blue Moon Bakery is the best freaking gluten-free bakery I have ever tried (well, except there was one that no longer exists in London that might edge it out slightly) please know I am 100% serious. I do not know what on earth Melissa and her crew are doing in that kitchen but it's like magic. Everything I have ordered has been mindblowing delicious...and not just delicious for gluten free. It's just plain good full stop. I refer to their scones as my emotional support scones and always try and keep some in my freezer for hard days. It's honestly hard to stand out as a GF bakery in the Portland metro area (and McMinnville iykyk) as we have so many good ones to choose from compared to other places, but Blue Moon Bakery stands out from the crowd in my opinion.

The vegan buckles, valentines scones,
Asiago chive savory scones, and bacon hand pies are my favorites.
The orders are really smooth too, I was in and out pretty quickly.
