Great lil airy spot in the idyllic French quarter. Run by the French, it’s got the usual pastries and bake suspects, good selection of beverages to cool on a hot day and a beautifully old world charming space that allows for a lazy afternoon where you can read a book and enjoy the serenity from the heat outside. We had a berry lassi, chocolate fondant cake and some coffee. All good. Definitely a good place to drop by for brunch or a quick sandwich in the afternoons to fuel up for the rest of your roaming. I had the unfortunate experience of visiting Des Arts cafe and I must say it was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The owner of the cafe has a terrible attitude and is incredibly arrogant, especially towards local Indian customers. It was clear that the owner was trying to be overly pleasing towards the foreigners, while completely disregarding the local customers. The way he spoke to us and treated us was absolutely appalling. It was as if he thought he was above us just because we were Indian. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was slow and unfriendly. The entire atmosphere of the cafe was tainted by the owner's terrible attitude. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially not to my fellow Indian friends. The food and atmosphere met my expectations. I was not aware about the timings so for everyone visit before 5 P.M. you can buy jam and other stuff as well from the restaurant. Really lovely cafe with courtyard or indoor seating - we went twice since it was so nice. Staff are very friendly and the quality of the food and drink is excellent. The coffee is real coffee (rather than the watered down rubbish in Starbucks etc) and delicious, and if you like hot chocolate which isn’t sweetened and actually tastes of cocoa the one here is for you. We also had the fruit bowl which was again extremely good - very ripe and tasty fruit and prepared very hygienically . Its an aesthetically pleasing cafe! You will have to wait and there is salads, crepes and waffles..thats all! We had the asian salad and berry waffels, both were just fine. The salad dressing was too blanc to be asian and waffles had very little berry sauce. There are other cafes which offer much more in the food section. But their ambience is beautiful.
