Chicken Wings
Awesome tiki bar - we were drawn in by happy hour and so pleasantly surprised by everything we found! The interior decor is amazing (and I loved the additional touches for Halloween). Really just great vibes as soon as you step foot inside.
The bar staff was incredible, just super social and happy to chat with us, had great advice on drinks, and were so patient as they served many many Phoenix drinks to other patrons.
Definitely a great spot, will stop back in if I ever find myself in San Jose again!

I wanted to share my experience at Dr Funk tiki bar in downtown San Jose and let me just say, it was a blast! This place had such a wide range of drinks to choose from and the snack options were a great addition. What caught my attention was that each drink had a rating of alcohol content marked with an "X" - the more X's, the stronger the drink. As a fan of rum, I was pleased to see it being featured prominently on the menu.
But the real highlight for me was the service. The staff at Dr Funk were not only friendly but also made sure we had a great time. They were knowledgeable about the drinks and made recommendations based on our preferences. They definitely knew how to create a enjoyable atmosphere for their customers.
Speaking of atmosphere, that's what really captured my heart about this place. On both occasions that I visited, I chose to sit outside and let me tell you, it felt like stepping into a different world. The unique ambience made me feel like I had been shipwrecked and stumbled upon this hidden oasis in the desert. It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Dr Funk. I can't wait to experience that sense of escapism once again. Cheers to good times and great drinks! 🥂

Hidden inside the San Pedro Square area of Downtown San Jose is an oasis of tropical cocktail mixology! Named after a famous physician/alchemist who inspired Don the Beachcomber to create a drink with his namesake!
The interior decor will whisk you away to faraway lands, much like the Jungle Ride at Disneyland.
You can dine while enjoying cocktails and on Tuesdays you are entertained by live DJs playing vinyl records!?!?
The cocktails are perfect but if they are not to your liking the bartenders will customize the drinks to your palate. My only complaint is the food menu is limited, so after a few visits you will either find a favorite you'll order again and again, or get bored with the limited variety.

Masala Curry Fries
Cute tiki bar with good food and drinks.
We went on a Saturday at 630 pm. There were plenty of tables available. It did start to fill up, but never to the point where there were no free tables. You can also make a reservation on open table.
We were surprised by how good the food was. We got the curry fries and chicken wings. The chicken wings were the favorite. Fried perfectly so they’re crunchy and juicy. The ranch and chili sauces provided with the wings were flavorful. We thought the curry fries would have curry powder, but there was actual curry on the fries. They were delicious, but they did start to get soggy due to the curry.
For drinks, we tried the shipwreck, tropical itch, Jamaican highball, and mai tai. Honestly, I liked all of them. The Jamaican highball was the least sweet, and the shipwreck was the sweetest. I felt like the tropical itch was the most spirit forward of the drinks we tried.
The workers were super friendly. Sometimes, it was a bit hard to find our waitress.

Service was great! The cocktails are insanely customized! The drinks are amazing The XXX will get you tippy. The food was delicious. This was my first time here and it didn't disappoint. The food menu is small but they have something for everyone!
Excellent sit down bar and place for snacks! Our group ordered the puka punch, shipwreck, Phoenix rising, and zombie on a night out. All of em are super strong so word to the wise, take it easy! The curry masala fries are absolutely out of this world, and a hidden gem on the menu. Probably have to be the best flavored fries I've ever had, at the most unexpected place to find them. Great vibes, the corner booth is super cozy.
The first time I went, which was on a random weekday with my son that was probably around one year old at the time. It was very slow with maybe two or three people sitting inside, and the host with a rude attitude, denied service to us and wouldn’t let us in because no one under 21 was allowed in the establishment which I understand. Funny enough a couple months later our friends invite us out and we go back on a weekend without our son where there is a party going on with multiple children, and it seems like there was no issue that they were in there and getting service just fine. That definitely frustrated me and puts a bad taste in my mouth on whether or not we’ll be back. All in all the drinks are great and the atmosphere is on point but this place will not be one of our top choices anymore.

The decor is awesome, and the drinks were good. We went there the weekend before Halloween and had a blast. So many people were out and dressed up.

Saturday night review: Great drinks and great vibes. We tried to come earlier at 9pm and there was a huge waitlist. Came back ground 12am and it was pretty empty inside. Friend ordered a huge drink for the table and it was actually really tasty and fun. I'll be coming back for their happy hour to see how that's like :)
