The service is very solid and great! I enjoyed their hard boiled eggs and oolong tea a lot. Their mocha latte wasn’t bad either. Avocado toast wasn’t spectacular but still good especially the egg that was on top of it. And their strawberry banana smoothie was simply too sweet and sugary tasting.

Tastey Strong coffee, delicious grits with butter and litely peppered. Only complaint is that was no whole grain bread for egg and cheese sandwich.

Loved every thing about this spot! Good simple ingredients prepared incredibly well. Hospitality is over the top. They make you feel like you're family. Absolutely amazing coffee smoothies brunch and lunch fare. I loved the panini and my husband loved their chicken sandwich. So much care into every thing!

Yay Emma you made our day. Wonderful conversation and waitress presence. What a sweet well designed space with delicious food. We had grits and fish and took a walk around the neighborhood. We are from Oakland California and felt real comfortable.

This is a nice small & intimate breakfast spot on Kensington near the Masten and University border.
There's plenty of coffee and tea options to try. I ordered a sweet tea using basic black tea, and it was pretty good. Next time I'll choose one of the flavored or specialty teas to switch things up.
For breakfast I ordered the fish & gritts. I'll describe the fish as a breakfast portion, which is fine to start off your day. HOWEVER, I can see a larger size with an upcharge being an option the owner(s) should consider. ANYWAYS, the fish came out crispy and well seasoned, enough said!! I know some might say it wasn't enough seasoning, but it was fine to me.
I was pleasantly surprised with the gritts! They were cooked good, had a nice consistency, and had some good flavor. That can be hard to do with basic gritts.
In summary, Rise & Grind is a nice new breakfast spot you should try. The prices and service were very good and the staff had smiles on their faces. With it being new, there are some kinks to work out, so don't go when you need to punch the time clock in 20 minutes.
My only "MINOR" complaints or should I say suggestions are:
- Gritts should automatically come with toast.
- An egg or breakfast potatoes should come with breakfast. (Like I mentioned above, having an option to choose a larger breakfast would be nice.)

Fish & Grits w Toast
Local, family-owned cafe and restaurant. The food feels like a home-cooked meal, and the coffee will wake you up faster than a bump of Mr White. Can get hectic and slow when a lot of people are in all at once, but worth the wait!
