This meal was one of our best of all. That said St Benedict's has always been more entertainment than foodie and this tradition persists, today there is a board game cafe and a computer cafe alongside the reliable Pinocchio's and Pizza Express. Tonight though there was fine dining on offer, but you couldn't quite take the Norwich out of the experience. The food was pretty much immaculate. The Trout then Lamb loin were delicious, perfectly cooked and accessoried. The pre-dessert too, a salted caramel tart was perfect - indeed it shaded the mille feuille. The service was however quite noisy and at odds with the evidently serious gastronomy however the Hunters didn't really mind - the food was so good. We have always had such brilliant food and service each time we have visited. Unfortunately we were both unwell after eating something that did not agree with us! While it is very pricey for us, we try to come once a year for a special occasion and go the whole hog with the full set menu (Menu 2). Without fail, every time it is absolutely amazing. The food is just inspired and I end up taking notes on my phone every time to try and recreate some of the flavour ideas at home. Also, it sounds ridiculous to type out but it's true - one of the things we always look forward to the most is the bread & butter course because the bread is So. Good. We last went in January 2024 and everything was delicious as always. Plus, the staff are always so nice as well. I can 100% recommend it.
