New to the area and a sucker for great diner style food. The employees were pleasant & helpful. The environment is retro & cute. My issue is in the food. Even diner style food can taste fantastic if done right. I feel the flaws of the food & ways of cooking fall on the owner. The employees were very nice & can only work with the products their given to cook with. I ordered the perch dinner. It was definitely a frozen filet thrown in the fryer. Living on Lake Michigan this is a chance to be a shining star of perch dinners. You could find local perch easy and at a price where you could go from $13.99 for frozen mush to $17.99 for "the best perch in Grand Haven". That would be my move. Just improvements on the quality of ingredients. Go fresh without losing the profits 📈

An historic landmark mostly unchanged since the mid-20th century. Classic greeseburgers and famous crinkle-cut fries, fried whitefish as per local tradition, and amazing custom shakes.
Ray's has won many local awards over the years and has been mentioned in national reviews. In light of that, expect a moderate wait time and a crowd around the counter during lunch and dinner time.
Eating (and even just ordering!) here is like taking a step back into the past. My only complaint is that they inevitably got rid of their old signage in exchange for an LED display. Other than that? Absolutely worth the time if you're new to the area or just passing through.

Absolutely always love Ray's you can almost never go wrong if you need a quick bite. Unfortunately today our fries were so salty we couldn't even eat them. Need to slow down on the shaker guys!!

Great food!!! We come by at least once every time we're in GH, and it never disappoints. Just be aware, mostly a take-out place, but great for grabbing and eating at the beach.

Crinkle Cut Fries
Ate here for our traditional first day of school at Ray’s Drive In. The burgers were very good, we had ordered a triple cheese, double cheese, single cheese, chicken strips, fries, and shakes. All was good and fresh. They can mix any of the shake clovers too so that’s what we did, grabbed a chocolate and peanut butter shake which was very good. We usually always eat there for this first day tradition so we ate at their outdoor tables. Not the nicest area and close to the garbage. Wish they could spruce this outdoor eating area up.

This is the locally-owned burger stand all the locals go to and everyone loves. No frills, just great burgers and terrific service. Try a chocolate+ 🥥 milkshake and don't forget to upgrade your burger with 🥓!

Crinkle Cut Fries
I grew up around Rays, and long for their fries. Unfortunately the economic times the burgers don't seem nearly as beefy as they once where and the shakes have gotten smaller. It's disappointing, especially with the burgers. Also the bussiness seems a little dead. Still I give them 5 stars because I got to (somewhat) relive a childhood memories with my daughter. Priceless.
So much to love about Rays!!! The food is always amazing. Burgers are fresh and tasty. Fries are always fresh and crispy with just the right amount of salt. Shakes are so delicious here. This is probably my all time favorite burger spot in west Michigan.
I was a bit disappointed... I don't go to Grand Haven very often but happened to be driving by and I love going to the small places because they usually have good food at fair prices. I was disappointed here though. The perch sandwich was dry, overcooked and mostly breading. The fries were decent and I got a decent amount of them. I also ordered some coleslaw (and I paid for it) but it was never placed into my bag. I got a Coke to drink and they have the new paper straws (which I dislike, personally) which is great because every little bit helps. However, they are using plastic cups so why did I have to taste paper and have my lips stuck to the straw when there way more plastic in the cup itself... Based on the reviews, my visit was probably a fluke but it was still disappointing none the less. The lady at the counter was very friendly though. Also, there aren't any "meals" so you have to order everything individually. My order totaled over $9 and it just wasn't worth that much to me.
