Restaurant Zur Obermühle in Welzheim offers regional Swabian cuisine of the highest quality. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic without appearing outdated, and the service is attentive and friendly. The menu is pleasantly straightforward, yet still offers everything a taste for regional dishes could desire - from soups and starters (the Maultaschen soup and Blutwurst-Maultaschen in Majoran butter on a bed of creamy sauerkraut are particularly delicious) to down-to-earth main courses and beautiful desserts. There are also fine menu suggestions and current daily specials. The Hirschbraten from Allgäu with fried mushrooms, Preiselbeerbirne and homemade Spätzle is highly recommended. The meat is wonderfully tender and the cranberries perfectly round off the wild taste. The homemade Spätzle are fine, although a bit soft - it wouldn't have hurt to pass them through the pan once. The classic of regional cuisine - the Zwiebelrostbraten - is perfectly done and the Kalbsrahmbraten with fried mushrooms and Spätzle also shows its best side. Secret tip from the dessert menu: the vanilla ice cream with pumpkin seed oil and crunchy pumpkin seeds is a real treat. Here, Swabian cuisine is cooked and presented with love, the ingredients are fresh, the portions generous and the price-performance ratio really decent. Highly recommended!
