Visited for the first time for a special celebration. Had seen a recent review in paper and wanted to taste what all the rave reviews were about. Having been to Italy a few times I know what good Italian food is. This place is the real deal. Amazing genuine Italian dishes with amazing flavours. A wide ranging menu with great wines and beers. Had a great 4 course meal with wine and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommend. Will return. Absolutely amazing place 🤩 For 7 people dining in the price was absolutely fair and well worth it! Raf is lovely as always and is such a friendly face. The spaghetti is the most amazing thing I’ve ever had. Tiramisu is heavenly! Nice family run restaurant with authentic Italian overall experience. Owner makes sure everyone feels like home and provides unique experience and ensuring to recommend best options for you liking. We tried recommended daily antipasto - Insalada Di Caprese and it was the best salad we had ! Just melting in mouth with fresh, home grown tomatoes and mozzarella. Delicious ! Lasagna parmigiana with eggplant instead of pasta was just amazing as well. Many vegetarian and vegan options on request. You can wrap it up with homemade tiramisu which is just perfect and not sweet at all! Limoncello is nice to end up the night ! It’s not cheap but certainly worth the money for the overall experience! Far beyond Emilia Romagna - an outstanding Italian osteria reminds locals and travellers here in Nelson how delicious such food can be. My brother knows this place from visits years ago, but it was me who dragged our lot back a second time before we had to move on. Peccato, ma le vacanze stanno finendo presto. Just to describe some of the sensations the little busy restaurant offers (booking in advance recommended): The burrata (version of mozzarella) had a fine creamy texture that almost melted on its own on the tongue. The freshly made tagliatelle were of such lovely quality that suggests - that one could eat them "solo" with some butter and softly roasted sage, for example or some lovely olive oil sprinkled over the cubes of a summer ripe tomato as a beside or topping. The team mates to the pasta (mushrooms and sausage) or a perhaps classic emiliana bolognese - also flavourful. To my palate - lovely rustic variations (likewise tasted in Volterra or further south in Orvieto). As for the meat - le costine - the pork ribs 48 hrs sous vide cooked showed the superb tender to the bone "meaty" quality that clearly reminded me 😇😈 that I am not a vegetarian. My brother had that dish. I tried not to be too greedy and ask too often for an extra bite. Nice choice of wine. Reliable lovely (umami) Sangiovese, but an even better Lagrein. Grappa and coffee - perfect. And so was the performance of the owner, Raffaello. I felt welcome at his place, cherished and bantered with - a bit like family - wellness for soul and mind too. Grazie, Raf for two relaxed, heartwarming, wonderful dinners. Also - you treat your own staff with care too, as observed. It is of course not my business. I simply want to say - i am touched because I have a son who finished his apprenticeship as a cook not so long ago and I know by his experiences what a difference it can make to work in a good team (front & behind). Picked this place on a whim while we were staying in Nelson and we were really impressed. Gnocchi was fresh and delicious, lamb ragu also wonderful. Service was friendly and just genuine hospitality! No online booking service in 2024, and then you get a sarcastic head shake when you get to the door on a Tuesday evening as if to say “oh, as if you’d get a table”. A simple “I’m sorry, we are really busy tonight!” would’ve been welcome. Take bookings properly. Don’t be rude to potential customers.

What an incredible place, top quality food and friendly staff provided a happy and upbeat atmosphere. The owner Raf had a great sense of humour which enhances the experience. There was something to satisfy the whole family’s wants with a range of authentic Italian dishes, we all loved our night andwill definitely be returning soon. So glad we made a booking..Raf had to turn many people away. I understand why they wanted to dine here.. great, friendly service, awesome food. We started by sharing some olives (the pitted ones were delicious), olive oil and bread. My husband had the pork sausage and mushroom pasta, I had the GF spaghetti with clams. We shared a berry Panna cotta to finish, and both enjoyed a glass of Pino bianco. The meal was a great finish to our few days in Nelson.
