Scenery is hyper diminished from what they portray at the port. They utilize cheap fishing nets bolstered by sticks and old 2 liter coke bottles to keep “seaweed” out of their beach area which is about the size of a football field. I’d say it gets to about 5 feet deep. Water is clear but nothing close to as beautiful as it looks when you step off the boat. It cost $63 per person total for an all inclusive package though. At least it did for my visit. If you drink enough (because food is not included) that’s the best thing to note for Big Mama’s. For reference if you drink either 20 beers or 15+ cocktails you’d meet the $63 mark. If you manage to grab one of the 40 beach chairs by the water as you rest you will be asked to purchase massages, cigars, sunglasses, snorkeling tours, blankets, braids or hats on about a 37 second rotation. Two us for lunch. Spent $100 U.S. total. Had appetizer and two meals. Very happy about the atmosphere and we don't mind the locals constantly trying to sell you something while you're seated. The cheese is awful (waiter even agreed) so anything like nachos I wouldn't recommend. Wasn't happy they tack on a service fee AFTER you get their bill so pay attention as you may not want to tip after that. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I was there yesterday the server charge me a different price than the menu and the owner did nothing. The fish was $27 per kilo and the guy added like half of pound of the weight extra. Owner did nothing she was busy having her nails done. They add around 38 in extras. Some people got charged more or less to enter the place where does not have a sign to seat on it. Place was ok, the chairs clean, tables dirty, the 3 starts are for the food because the fish was delicious but the tacos had no flavor only a flour tortilla with the meat inside server with a potato salad, no cilantro, no onions, look good but taste bad. Fish was delicious but I would not recommend the place due to the up charge. Beautiful water and nice seats right on the beach. My 3 star rating is for the drinks, I couldn't taste ANY alcohol in both drinks. Not to mention you will CONSTANTLYbe hounded to buy sunglasses, bracelets, and many other trinkets. When I say constantly I literally mean from the time you arrive untill you leave. The water was gorgeous and we had a good time.

Big mama is an affordable beach club in the center of the malecón/boardwalk in Mahuhual. We got excellent service from Jaime. The food was delicious and fresh, and the price was very affordable. We spent two of our days on this beach club. They have a sectioned off and area in the ocean so to keep the Sargasso away so the beach was pretty clean. There were absolutely no rough waves in this area. I was able to take my floating hammock and chill hours and hours in the ocean by the speech club. Our total each day was around $30 usd.

The food was pretty good but a little pricey. The Big Mama team bends over backwards to make sure you are happy... We enjoyed our lunch, the chimichangas are delicious and crunchy. The burrito is massive! The tacos are fantastic... the tortillas are some of the best we have had. Work your way past the other restaurants along the beach and give Big Mama's a look before you commit to anything. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Scam from the moment we met with taxi driver to the lies told about a first drink free and reasonable food. They charge for every single thing extra and lie about the additional costs. They lied when I told the taxi driver we were going to Krazy Lobster, he said they were full and he with out a reservation he could not ensure we could get in. We spent $15. 00 per person and were promised a free drink for each and they lied when we got the bill and they said there was nothing they can do. They are all in on it and we will never port in Costa Maya again as we have been lied to by many others at this port. Food was terrible as well. Do not go to this place at all! Worst tacos we ever had. Just got back from a cruise to Costa Maya. Paid $76 dollars USD for 2 people for 6 tacos that were absolutely plain. They charged $3 for a side of pico per person and $4 for a soda . Horrible and 10% credit card fee. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
