Went for Lunch, we were seated immediately . Such a nice place, everyone was so friendly! Great food too!! Had numero uno off of the lunch menu, was delicious! For appetizer we had the top shelf table side guacamole, was amazing! Coming from out of state, my expectations were very high for having Texas-Mexican food. It did not disappoint. The chips were perfectly cooked, the salsa was flavorful with just the right amount of heat. I had the rodeo combo which was well portioned and tasted delicious. The Old Fashioned taco was delicious with the hand made hard flour tortilla, beef, and avocado. However, the best part was the service from Ashmond. He was not in a rush to get me in and out to turn as many tables as he could. He took the time to speak with me, answered my questions about the menu, and ensured I was ready to go on my terms. One of the best service experiences I have had in quite a while. Thank you Ashmond!!! I really wanted to like it here. But the food was so bland as well as the hot sauce being scorching on this particular day, with no less spicy alternative. The Taco shells were so thin that on the first Taco it fell to pieces. The black beans had no flavor, neither did the rice. They did bring chips to the table that were enjoyable, fresh & crisp. They also made a nice Virgin blackberry drink that was quite good. Our server was also very good & the ambiance was average or above for most tables. Even with all of these pluses, I went there to eat & left hungry. So I wouldn't recommend. One of the few El Chico’s left and the food is still amazing. Old school Tex-Mex perfectly prepared and always quality. Great service and a wonderful location — spacious and fun interior with living trees that give the center of the restaurant an inner courtyard feel. We used to have one in our neighborhood now we have to drive two hours to Rockwall or the other direction in Oklahoma. We always buy a pint of salsa to take home. My husband and I had a wonderful experience here! They had decorated really nicely for Christmas. I had their lunch burrito bowl and the beef was delicious. The host was very welcoming and our waiter was wonderful. Kind and very attentive. Salsa and white queso were delicious 😋 10/10 recommend! The food was fantastic . Wife and I enjoyed the amazing tortillas soup, and fiesta botanas. Layer over layers of flavor blended perfectly. Not only the food and atmosphere were good. The story and Tex - Mex continues! Not many El Chico’s left of the once dominant restaurant chain. Mama Cuellar herself would approve of this location. When in Rockwall Tx and you want original Tex -Mex , this is the place. You can still order by number . Had the Dos today , and it was very good . Decor and atmosphere enhance the dining experience. El Chico is always a good choice for decent Tex-Mex. Not too many of these restaurants left and this one has been here and been solid for many years. The food and the service is always consistent and the whole family enjoys dining here. It would be nice to see the fountain flowing again, but I’m sure it was a maintenance nightmare.
