A little treasure hidden in Nixon, Texas! Sometimes, surprises come around when you least expect them. This is the case with El Rodeo Mexican restaurant in Nixon, Texas. If you follow my restaurant reviews, you know that I love Mexican food. I love all food (as evidenced by my waistline 😉), but I especially love Mexican food. The problem is that most Mexican food places in Texas amount to what I call "TV Dinner Restaurants" in that most of what they serve comes straight out of a can, bag, or box. Such is not the case with El Rodeo. From the moment you see the food come out and take your first bite, you know that this was cooked right there in the restaurant by someone who knew how to make food taste good, Mexican style! Of all of the cuisines on earth Mexican cuisine is about flavor and spice. No, not SALT, as many Texan restaurants think is a spice, but real spice—Camino, Chili, Oregano, Onion, Garlic, Lime, Vinegar etc, etc, etc. The chef at El Rodeo knows how to make food taste good, and you will notice the difference as soon as you taste their food. I travel through Nixon once or twice a month, and if I am hungry, I know exactly where I am going to eat. I am eating at El Rodeo. Service Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Excellent service and delicious food! We had the shrimp soup and it was wonderful! And the bowl was huge. The fajitas were delicious, And the beans are better than Abuela's. You have got to eat here!

Ate here for the first time after living 12 miles away for 2 years not even knowing they existed. I have been looking for Mexican food like this since we moved here. The waitress was so polite and helpful. The prices are more than fair. The food was awesome! It's only 12 miles away and stays open past 2pm! (Open till 10 pm except Sundays.) I was so happy to find this place because I'm not a fan of most of the Mexican food that surrounds us. It's just not good. Thank you for making my entire night with you delicious food. Carne asada was okay, chips and queso blanco was creamy but plain. Despite being the only person in the entire restaurant I never got a refill on my sweet tea.
