Absolutely incredible poke - fresh fish and a mix of traditional + eclectic recipes. The spicy is the best in my humble opinion.
Staff was extremely friendly. Family owned and ran business so when you eat here you support small businesses.

5 well deserved stars. I came in right before close and was met with happy, friendly, and helpful employees.
The menu was simple and clear, which is appreciated. $12 for single, $17 for double, or $22 for triple. All options for Poke and sides are on display.
Kapua was the one who helped me. She noticed I was having a hard time choosing, and offered samples. I might have got lucky, but she let me split my order. So, I got the double, but got to split two sides, and four smaller portions of Poke.
I got the house spicy mayo, Hawaiian ahi, Kalbi ahi and the aku Hawaiian. I got the Ula mash and the mac-n-cheese for sides. Everything was great. The double was big enough for two, but on a good day, I could eat it all myself.
Now for the embarrassing part. As soon as I got to the car, it was devoured by everyone. This was supposed to be a pre-dinner snack, but after a long day at the beach........no photos were taken in its pristine glory.
We come out to visit family every few months, and my goal is to try new places each time. I'm going to have to make another stop at Ellie Girl Poke this trip.
I took a photo of the plate after it had been partially ravaged, but it doesn't do the shop justice, so I'll have to go back and get a photo of a new plate.
Edit: I DID go back the next day, and it was even better the second time. They had a couple more flavors out that weren't out the first time.

Packed with locals and tourists alike (and unceremoniously tucked into a strip mall), Ellie Girl is an awesome poke spot in Hilo. Only a few sidewalk tables, but a perfect take-out joint for a day at the beach (Richardson Ocean Park, with its dramatic views and green-black sand, gets my vote)!

Service was very kind, really appreciate the free samples to help us decide on flavors. They have a cool story about the owner branching out from a fishing company.
Poke itself was pretty good overall. Found the garlic flavor to be really good. The fish had a decent amount of inedible parts (at least compared to poke I’ve had before) and the onions were way too thick for me. Overall quite good and worth your money.

The best food I had in Hawaii! Admittedly I did not visit that many places, but I tried to find the highest rated food wherever I went and this food was the tastiest imo! The uala smash and the spicy Mayo poke were both delicious

Tried the poke place since I always buy ahi off the side of the road from them. I tried the Cali mix and it had a bunch of stuff in it and it tasted good, but I wish the fish was cut into bigger chunks like poke usually is.

Good options of poke flavors, haven't seen the oka available anywhere else. Great side options too. Glad they don't use any previously frozen or gassed (CO2) fish, only fresh!

The staff was really friendly! Portion sizes and pricing is fair. Poke was cut into decently large pieces that were a bit fishy to chew on. If they just cut them a little smaller, or made sure the fish was separated once cut, this place would be excellent!

I got the spicy mayo ahi, the Hawaiian, and I think the traditional ahi. It was delicious! The seaweed was also really good. Loved this place.
