My wife had heard about the bakery when looking for a good crumb cake. They are located in the other end of town from our south county location. But, we did look for them on a Saturday drive.
Great traditional bakery counter...must have been Pączki Day, so many choices. Those were really good, but the specialty of the day for us was the decorated cookies. ;-)

After following then on social media for a while I was excited to visit my daughter working in the STL area!! I was not disappointing. They lived up to the hype, ! OUTSTANDING spot!! From the moment I walked in I was greeted with wonderful customer service!! Display case was organized and well marked. The hardest part was not getting one of everything! On her recommendation, I got the buttery crumb cake. That I’m not ashamed to admit, I ate it in the parking lot with my coffee!! I just couldn’t wait to get h back to the hotel!
Their cakes are delicious! I purchased my husband’s birthday cake from here and all his friends rave about it til this day.

I stopped by Helfer's Pastries this morning right about sunrise. They are usually known for their cakes, pies, and decorated cookies but I learned they also sell donuts! I was pleased to see that they have a couple styles of incredibly soft and tasty donuts! Their jelly filled and custard filled are some of my favorites on the tour so far! I was told they have apple fritters on Fridays so you know I'll be back to get one of those! If you want to try some amazing and delicious pastries then you should visit Helfer's Pastries & Deli Cafe in Florissant! My daughter and I stopped in this afternoon after hearing about it at another local restaurant. It's such a cozy cafe. The staff was also very friendly. We had sandwiches and then took a loaf of Italian bread to go. The tuna salad sandwich did not disappoint. My daughter's sandwich was a bit too much for her so I got half of that one too. Everything tasted very fresh. I can't wait to try the loaf for dinner tonight.
What an amazing place! Kathi at Spot House recommended this place! I had a chocolate fudge NY cheesecake!
They also have a place to sit down and eat but we just got my birthday cheesecake and left.
I ordered a 9 inch cheesecake topped with strawberries for my husbands 40th birthday and it was delicious! I placed and paid for the order that Tuesday morning and it was ready in time for his birthday that Thursday morning. Customer service when picking up was awesome as well. I even purchased a few donuts and they were great! My family have ordered a few cake items over the years and they all were tasty! I did see they offer breakfast items as well, we will have to try that next!
If you have a sweet tooth or sweet heart or even that someone special this is the place for you. Need a Wedding Cake they have you covered. Come in set down and have a cappuccino with your donut or roll. Masks are recommended. All staff are friendly and very knowledgeable in your pastry needs.
Delicious cake, exactly what I wanted, and super friendly staff!! Will be the only place I get custom cakes from now on. I had ordered a birthday cake for my son from a big box grocery store bakery a week in advance. I was called 3 days prior and told they wouldn't be able to do it, as the decorator was on leave. After a variety of issues and being told I didn't give enough notice at several other locations, I was accepting the fact that I'd just have to get him a generic, pre-made cake with little balloons. Not at all what my excited 7 year old was looking forward to having. I had scrolled past Helfer's a couple of times because I didn't realize they did cakes, but then I noticed someone's review of a birthday cake and wedding cake. With little hope and no enthusiasm, I called Helfer's around noon on Friday, needing the cake at 2pm the next day. To my surprise, I was told "no problem, let's get some info!" The cake was ready on time, better than I anticipated (due to the lack of time and describing it over the phone), and it tasted great. To quote the birthday boy, "this is the perfect cake on my perfect birthday." I think that says it all! Thank you, Helfer's!!!
It is always a treat when my errands take me close to Helfer's. The breakfast Gooey Butter Cakes, the Donuts, the Italian Bread, the Cheese Cakes, and the Tiramisu, are all exactly what I remember from my youth. You cannot go wrong with purchasing whatever you find at Helfer's.
