The restaurant is a fairly new opening in Ponsonby. It is a Japanese-Italian fusion bistro. The place is quite small but they have extra tables in the lobby to the side. IT would be best to come early or book a table since they are usually full. The menu is an interesting mix of items you would find in Japanese and Italian cuisine. There are slightly different items on the lunch and dinner menu. We got a range of different dishes to share. Most of the food was amazing. They are able to nicely fuse the dishes and flavours of the two cuisines. The miso eggplant with salami was really nice and very different. The carpaccio and karaage were same same but different with interesting textures like the caviar on the karaage. The pasta dishes were all amazing. I've managed to try all their pastas and the lobster one was the best with the rich prawny flavour. The beef cheek ragu with Japanese curry was also quite moreish. The pork katsu was delicious with the tomato relish underneath making it taste fresher and still being quite light. They also did desserts which were interesting. The matcha tiramisu was nice particularly since the matcha flavour wasn't very strong. I wasn't a big fan of the affogato because I don't drink coffee but the sesame ice cream and coffee jelly was nice. The cannoli was interesting with the red bean cream since it didn't have a strong red bean favour or texture and the chocolate chips and crunchy shell were tasty. I really enjoyed dining here. Tonight we had 3 entrees, 4 pasta dishes, 2 cocktails and 2 desserts. Food came out quickly and staff were very attentive to our needs. The stars of the evening were the Miso roast eggplant entree and the Mentaiko pasta. Both were beautiful in presentation and divine in taste. This place is pretty hyped and love both Japanese and Italian food so a place that does a fusion of both seemed right up my alley. It was good, perhaps falling short of excellent and it's fairly pricey so prepare yourself. I am glad I went but likely wouldn't rush back. Perhaps if they change up the menu a bit. I feel lucky to find this newly opened restaurant after shopping at Countdown. You can park your car at Countdown and enjoy a delicious brunch here, served by friendly staff with international background. My wife and I ordered the curry udon and hand made pasta which really impressed us. Good combination of Italian and Japanese cuisines.
