If you appreciate history and architecture, then this little gem is a must see.
While the facade of this building was being renovated back in the summer of 2020, two local residents (Natalia Limanskaya and Andrey Polyanichko) noticed some old writings on the wall - they immediately sprung into action to try and save a bit of history. It turns out that this little shop was a pharmacy called Lebenzona first established in 1906 by David Leibenzohn. First, they stopped the workers (who were probably clueless as to the value of the original artwork). The owner agreed to the restoration, and in 62 hours 255 Odessans from all over the world chipped in for tools, materials & food for the restorers.
The restorers cleared the plastered areas, strengthened the existing historical layer, meticulously retraced the lost text and protected the surface from moisture. It took almost three months to restore the entire façade.
Later, Victor (the current owner?) decided to continue restoring the interior as well - This you will have to see for yourselves - I won't spoil it for you.
Suffice it to say, that this charming little café has restored a bit of my faith in the future of Odessa by connecting me with its past. Come in and enjoy some handmade macaroons, fresh croissants, delicious cheesecake, coffee, tea and a healthy dose of historic beauty.
Superfood, every dish is like being served a painting, and it tastes delicious too, up to now the best restaurant in Odessa I have dined in. I keep coming back
