Small home town feel burger spot. It was our first time here and service was very friendly. I thought it was cool how some of the servers greeted customers because they knew them personally. I classify Matt's as a hole in the wall that needs us to fill it, and by us I mean customers. I walked in the door as a first time customer and felt a nostalgia from my childhood in the 1980's. The aroma of the food, the 4 or 5 small tables, the decor, everything in their screams home. It felt like the small mom and pop shops my mother would take me to when I was a child. The food was excellent, (and they have a food challenge for you overachievers), the regular size portions were outstanding, and the waitresses were not only friendly to the customers, but the banter heard from behind the counter spoke of a familial relationship. 10 Stars would be given if allowed, I will be back again and again. This is such a great little spot. It's not very roomy, so it's not very good for big groups. They only have two tables that can fit five people, so plan accordingly. But the food is amazing. Everything is heavily seasoned, and cooked perfectly. We had quite a few different things from the menu and they were all great. Definitely check out the Spanish okra! I'd say the value is lacking. I decided to try this place because the highly rated Chinese Buffet a couple of miles away cost more than I wanted to pay for a late afternoon 4:20 pm meal. ($17.71 after tax). When you include a beverage and tip your looking at $22-$23. After ordering a 1/2 lb. hamburger @$9.60, a half order of fries @$3.99 and a medium sweetened iced tea @$2.99 plus tip I spent $22.00+ here. That's a bit pricey for a meal if this caliber even if the great city of Charleston is just minutes away. The cheeseburger appeared to have been hastily thrown together without much lettuce or onion and the patty was hanging off to one side and the cut in half was a cut into one third two thirds. Also if the burger hadn't been pressed on heavily and flattened out before and after the flip it would've been juicier and thicker. It was greasy though and tasted good but the meat itself was thin and dry. The seasoned fries were hot and tasty and I liked the strength and sweetness of the tea but I was disappointed overall because of the burger. There are videos all over YT on how to cook a burger. First time at Matt’s Burgers and man the chili is good! When paired with their sausage burger “The Bomb” OMG and the fries we got a half basket and the toppings were good fried onions with fried jalapeño.
