Everything at this restaurant is top notch. The seafoods we chose and bought from the fish stalls and asked them to prepare were cooked flavourful and delicious. The ambience was comfortable and cozy. And the service? Exceptional! Ricardo Alves is gracious, friendly, and has an amazing sense of humour. I first visited Porto 11 years ago and dined at a different restaurant where he was our server. Surprisingly, I’d meet Ricardo again and he’s still as friendly as he was back then. All the servers were fantastic, and were great for making suggestions and adding to the experience. I will definitely return for this hidden gem! I cannot imagine a more enjoyable seafood meal. Lunch here was much more than I expected. Friendly and helpful service. The freshest of seafood. And all served comfortably under the huge dome of the seafood marketplace itself. Absolutely recommend the octopus salad and the mussels vinaigrette. Delicious and really very enjoyable. Located in the popular Matosinhos Mercado, this is a must visit, especially if you love fresh seafood. You can literally select from the daily catch on the fish stands, and the chef makes it the way you like. Try the authentic Portugese coriander rice as a side dish , tastes superb! What a find. We hired a bike and cycled along the coast. When we thought we had gone far enough we noticed the fish market. What a find. Ricardo was just lovely and offered to help us choose a fish in the market and cook it for €7.50. A lovely idea but we were not that hungry. Instead he brought us a selection of starters. What fun. We loved the fritters and devoured the fish egg balls. Obviously all the reviews mention Ricardo and for good reason. He made lunch an event to remember. A few hours we will cherish. We had the most incredible time at Mercado food and drink. We met the wonderful Ricardo who led the way on our order. We ended up with small plates of prawns, cod, octopus, mussels, and barnacles, and then we had the full crab which the main body is made into a pate. We honestly were enjoying the food so much we began to worry we'd been taken for a ride 🤣🤣 and would be charged a bomb, but Ricardo seemed very genuine so we decided to just trust the process. Not only did we have the most amazing meal, Ricardo was exactly the kind and caring person we thought who genuinely wanted us to have an amazing experience!!!! We bought two fish in the market, and this restaurant cook them to perfection. Alfonso, and the rest of the staff were so attentive to details. The fish soup was also excellent. Excellent staff! We went to the market to pick out some fish for lunch. Decided, why not have someone cook it for us? After we picked it out fish, the chefs took what we bought at the market and cooked us an excellent meal. We also ordered some shrimp and barnacles directly from them which were excellent.
