Miyo's Restaurant in Hilo is a great spot for authentic Japanese cuisine. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional dishes, such as sesame chicken, tempura, and tonkatsu, as well as vegetarian options. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are generous. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with live music to set the mood. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the bartenders are knowledgeable and creative. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I highly recommend Miyo's for a wonderful dining experience.

Ah! Came here for lunch with my partner and it was so so good! They don't even offer fork and knife (you have to ask for them i think), because they gave us chopsticks! That was a first for me and it shows how authentic and good this food is! 😋 Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Make no mistake, the food here is top notch. Delicious flavors with attractive presentation. The docking of one star comes from service that couldn't quite get it together for our visit. The (amazing) poke appetizer came out after 3 (incredibly delicious) of 4 entrees. That last entree was served to another guest and had to be remade. The delay was a shame, but the food was still excellent. No offer to adjust the bill, but that's ok. The food was that good. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone as I have been here before about 15 years ago and unfortunately they haven't changed. When we first got there I made reservations and unfortunately she stuck us at the bar for izakaya style. I was thinking how come when we have reservations for a table well I figured that we would try it again and give them another chance. I was wrong the food was so terrible that everything looked like they just threw everything together nothing was placed beautifully like their pictures on the website. The service was horrible while we sat at the bar the bartender had an attitude like why'd you come here. The fact that they're was 1 time he asked how everything was but he was more personable talking to his fellow coworkers than anything also since they stuck us with him because I was seated at the end of the bar everytime they kept passing through I would get bumped so I was getting irritated and I asked my guests to please move down. I didn't get any apologies for bumping you. The fact that this is supposed to be a amazing place is an understatement I wouldn't. The food for me what I got was sesame chicken and the shrimp vegetables tempura. The sesame chicken was just cut up chicken katsu with sauce dressed I thought that it was going to be more delicious it was tuff and for the oyako donburi it definitely needed the egg because it was very bland and the sandwich was nothing special. The next time you're in Hilo go somewhere else Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Finally had the chance to experience the Izakaya bar at Miyo's. The food and service were top notch, and we even had a chance to chat with the owner about the menu. Super nice guy. Highly recommended, and everyone in our party cleaned their plates! Good restaurant, Asian and a lot of choice. The girl who served us was very nice. The best dish was the crispy rice with tuna, without doubts! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

The food is excellent here and so is service. Shrimp tempura was melt in your mouth, goodness! The vegetable tempura was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed eating the sashimi. The food presentation is also good, as shown in the pictures below. It was very busy around 7 pm, almost no tables were available. Reservations are important to avoid any waiting. I definitely recommend this restaurant for excellent seafood and steak. Everything… literally everything was great! From the service, the food quality and quantity to the prices. I highly recommend the mushrooms as a starter, the seafood hot pot, and the bento box. But honestly, everything that we tried (there were 6 of us) was just so so good. In addition, the quantity of food was quite generous and their prices - while not cheap - are very reasonable. Highly recommended. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30

Was amazing both times we went within the same week. Service was good and could have been a little better but the food was delicious. We only tried the Izakaya menu and every item we tried was fire. We are already looking forward to being back on the island to try more of their offerings. Floor on restaurant side was really sticky so cleaning could be improved. Food was so freaking good though… and so was their manhattans. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Make Miyo’s a must stop if you’re in Hilo!! We got a spot in the bar and were able to watch the chefs meticulously prep each dish before serving directly to you while enjoying draft Sapporo (read: draft Sapporo!). The menu is large and varied so I suggest eating family style and trying different things. My favorite dish was the crispy rice special which had an Ahi poke mixture on top - the crispy rice was like nothing I had tried before. The duck was light but rich with a nice berry sauce and crispy skin. Japanese egg toast was unique with a sous vide egg and a salty crunch on famous Japanese white bread. Beef noodle soup was rich (tasted a bit like French dip au jus), soft shell crab special was tempura battered and came with a some veggies for good measure. Presentation was extremely impressive on all dishes. Service also 10/10, but do recommend a reservation as people were getting turned away since they were booked for the night.
