I surprised my girlfriend with a date night and I had chosen North and South from all of the great things everyone I spoke to about the restaurant had to say! We had the Cajun Catfish bites as an appetizer, I would HIGHLY recommend them! Both, my girlfriend and I got the perch fish fry. I can’t say the last time I had such a good fish fry! Our waiter Rick was amazing! He was all smiles, awesome with recommendations and just an overall 10/10 waiter! The whole staff there is so friendly and makes your experience so much better! To end our dinner we tried the highly suggested Fried Ice cream, it was the most delicious dessert I’ve had in such a long time! Without a doubt I will be telling anyone who is looking for a great experience and even greater food to come here! North and South has become one of my favorite places to visit in the Madison area! If you are looking for a comforting and delicious meal out - head to North & South! Rick, our server, had the best service we’ve had in a long time! The shrimp scampi & grilled shrimp is our favorite entree. For sides, don’t miss out on their mac & cheese. For BBQ, pulled pork all the way. You won’t go wrong with anything you order (we’ve been here 8 times and it consistently is fantastic). Cute place, moderate volume, attentive staff, amazing food! Pictured: 50/50 sandwich with fries (we asked for pickles to add) and carmel cheesecake for dessert! Not pictured: Armadillo eggs, which had the perfect blend of kick and smoke. It came with a spicy ranch which was a tasty dip for the fries, not that they needed it. We just moved to the DeForest area, and this location was recommended to us. We enjoy smoked meat and all of the associated sides, so we decided to check out out. We were warmly greeted, as if we were regulars, and quickly seated. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Our food was served quickly. Our server's recommendations were right on the mark. We really enjoyed everything. The cheesy potatoes and the cornbread were our favorite sides. I tried one of the platters to sample so that I could sample several mains. The ribs and pulled pork were favorites. The brisket was good, but not really notable, as was the chicken. The gumbo soup was also great. The meat was served "dry" and there were several bbq sauce choices to help take the food in the direction you enjoy. We've already returned and will continue. The prices aren't really a bargain, but they seem to do a solid business, so they're apparently appropriate for the local market. Definitely recommend. This was a great stop while visiting Madison, WI. Three of us decided on sharing catfish bites, rib tips, and corn muffins. These hit the spot for a light bite. Our son order he brisket which was tender and flavorful. . The variety of bbq sauces add another level to the appetizers. Our server Tyler was always on point. Good food and great service! The BBQ is very good here! We had the armadillo eggs (bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers). The tuna tacos were delicious! I had one of the BBQ bowls with the Mac and cheese and cheesy hash browns as my base. The brisket was amazing! Best fatty brisket around. Beef butter barbecue is a close 2nd but North and South can't be beaten. Their pulled pork is equally as good and their homemade cornbread muffins are fantastic! For a strip mall location this place had great BBQ! Pretty much all of the BBQ we tried was excellent, only thing I would knock were the burnt ends, they tasted a little charred. The jambalaya also was little heavy on the tomato sauce for me. If I lived in the area I would eat here more often for sure!
