Stopped here for dinner on our way to see the Little Blue Penguins. Had the blue cod and chips which was massive and we ate every bite. The ice cream sundae was awesome. The decor is a bit tired, but it added to the charm of being a local place and not a tourist destination. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes Beer Battered Blue Cod Fish

A classic NZ pub of the type that is getting hard to find. Lovely service from the owner Sarah C. Only had bar food so cannot comment on main meals. Loved the friendly experience. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We had the best meal and service of our New Zealand trip at the Portobello Hotel and Bistro. The salt and pepper squid, prawn twisters and blue cod were all spectacular. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful. Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Nice place. They say there is a good food... we don't know, because they don't have enough stuff in the kitchen and we would have to wait 2 hours or more...

Our third visit to the Portobello pub and consistently a winner every time, a real locals pub with a great garden bar, good range of beers and wines not to mention the rum!! Food is top quality, if the chowder is on the menu go for it but the ribs, steak and pizza was also excellent. Many thanks to Tony, Sarah and our waitress Reese for another delicious meal and I enjoyed the banter with the locals. See you next time team. Really great experience here. Went for lunch on a Friday, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was tasty and fresh. We had the blue cod & a chicken pizza with cream cheese and apricot. Both were delicious. Kids also really enjoyed, good options for them as well as plenty to entertain them (few board games, colouring, outdoor kitchen) Must say the lady working there was really lovely and made our experience that much better just by being kind

I dont ever leave bad reviews on google, but i thought this deserved one.. We came into the bistro and were asked if we want to have dinner, said yes and then we were told that food will take at least 45mins to be served and we were completely fine with that. We got seated we waited for our menus for 25+ minutes, when staff was taking care of everyone else and had to go and ask for the menus… Then we got the most insincere “ooooh were sorry” and told us that theyr not gonna make food anymore. Felt like we were ignored and were not welcome there… All there was missing was communication and honesty to tell us that theyr not going to make us food for whatever reason in the first place and not make us waste our time waiting for nothing… Food looked good tho. Should also mention that this was our second time there and the first time it felt like something was off as well. That time we did not get a normal menu but ordered from some menu for snacks as those were the only menus we were given. Just wanted to try some of that food.. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2

Great little pub for a bit of lunch in the weekend ....menu was varied and had choices to even suit the fussy eater 😀 staff were friendly too .....had the chicken pizza brie mozzarella cheese and cranberries....could have done with more chicken and even cheese topping .....but crust was perfect ....overall I would be happy to order again Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
