Wow!! The food was GREAT, all the staff members were very nice, and the place was very clean. Hubby had the brisket (best I've had in the area and I've tried it at nearly every BBQ joint) and a link add on. I had the smoked bacon burger. Unsure why I wanted to try every dessert... but we had the apple cake, banana pudding, and peach cobbler. All the food was really good! And the prices were very reasonable! Today was my first visit after a friend recommended I go. I ordered a full rack of ribs with collard greens, green beans, and fries online. My order was ready only 7 minutes past promise time. When I arrived, the staff was busy hustling and working, but not too busy to offer a greeting. I was a little tickled because they reminded me of Chick-fil-A employees; smiling, pleasant, organized, and moving customers out quickly. I didn't hear "My pleasure", but I wouldn't have been surprised if I did. When I got my order, I went outside and opened my fries and they were a little black and cold. I went back inside and they replaced them with no issue, and I was very happy. When I got home and bit a rib, the meat was so tender, if I had no teeth, I could still eat them! Next time I will try another flavor, but I enjoyed them with my vinegar sauce the most. It was an excellent first impression. I have been to a lot of BBQ places and I have to say this in the top 3. Highly recommended. The wings are perfect. If ordering meat go with the dry options. The sauces on the table are amazing, especially the tomato base. Junior in the register was very friendly, patience and courteous. I will definitely be back with friends and family. I was told so many things about this bbq before going. I believe it is just ok bbq for the price. I got a peach cobbler to go and it was tiny compared to other places that are about $1.00 more. Waited over 15 minutes for just my peach cobbler to take to go after I had boxed my food and just sat there waiting. I heard them say they forgot. For one person for a the pork sandwich, yams, water, peach cobbler, and tip it was $19. I wouldn’t get the yams again. Unfortunately that’s a bit expensive for one person’s meal for a lunch. We were passing through, and this place was recommended by a local resident. Wow! We were incredibly impressed by the atmosphere, side choices, and quality of the food. Delicious pork BBQ plates and sandwiches. If you love grits or would like to try them for the first time, try the side of grits!! Yummy!! Something for everyone here. We visit family in the southern Gastonia area periodically from western North Carolina and always find the time to visit Ray Nathan's. The food is delicious. The brisket is our favorite. Everything we've had there has been consistently very good. Even though you have to order at the register, they then handle everything from bringing the food to your table to bringing you drinks or anything else you may need. Great service!!!!! During our 1 hour there we had the owners/managers come by twice to ask if everything was ok and the waitress was very attentive. The pulled pork sandwich was juicy, tasty and amazing. The brisket was good but not as juicy and flavorful as the Brisket Dip sandwich or the Stephen’s Brisket Sandwich which were great (and juice)The sides were all excellent in flavor and temperature. The chicken wing was one of the best we have ever had. Unfortunately the half a rack of rib (dry rub) was not a winner today. The bark was too thick making it really dry and chewy and not at all the kind that falls off the bone. I feel maybe it was just that batch?? Seeing that everything else was so good. This was a place that I have seen off the side while I drive on South New Hope. An acquaintance went not long after it opened with lots of good things to say. We went early on a Friday night, hoping not to get bogged down. There were many cars already in the parking lot. It is a good thing that the building is large. The interior is interesting mix of Graham’s Fish Fry and Primus art. If you know who Primus is, you are a step ahead of me. I went to the bathroom and passed through a room covered in some very eclectic art. The food board is right in front when you walk in the door. You order when you get in there & find a place to sit. The man got the pulled pork & had a very yummy taste to it before the sauce was added. The green beans & mac n cheese were excellent, great flavor. I had the glazed ribs because I was in the mood. Some were good, others weren’t. It was like some were under a heat lamp for a touch too long. The server was great & kept us with drinks. We didn’t get any desserts but next time. Take out today. About 30 minutes from pick up to eating, so it did not sit. Both brisket and chicken were so dry it disintegrated. No taste. I was really looking forward as the reviews were high. $50 I feel was wasted, as we did not eat but a few bites. Very disappointing today.
