the food is incredible. i had the fish pastor taco, the arránchero taco (with chimichurri), the beet salad, the cauliflower pomodoro, and the lime cake (more like lime tiramisu so delish). the food is so high quality - completely unexpected discovery after walking down the street from our hotel. the service was also excellent as was the artisanal coconut mezcal. plan to come back again tomorrow night to sample more of the menu!
This place is on an unassuming corner in an unassuming town, but I would visit Troncones specifically for this restaurant. A short drive from the beach resorts of Ixtapa Zihuatenejo it is well worth the trip. Calling itself a ‘grill’ I assumed we were in for burgers and steaks; while these are available, the menu is SO much more than a typical ‘grill’. The ensalada betabel is a beet lover’s dream - fresh and earthy with chopped and puréed beets. The pescado pastor taco had every bit of flavor as the pork pastor of Mexico City with generous strips of fresh caught local sourced grilled fish and pineapple. The arrencherra taco had a generous helping of grilled steak with a deliciously fresh chimichurri sauce. The coliflor pmodoro was a surprise of lightly grilled cauliflower with a freshly made tomato sauce - simple, elegant, delicious. For desert the pay de limon was sort of a millefeuille, tiramisu, key lime cake. It tasted like Floridian summer - bright, zesty and sweet — we had 2. In short, I could not recommend this place enough!
