It pains me to rate this place 3/5 because the staff were very welcoming and I love that the sandwiches are made in front of the customers local products.
The size of the sandwiches was quite big, which was good. Even the halves were pretty big.
However, we didn't like our sandwiches. They all had something that was not good. The Coaster was way too salty, the Veggie was yummy on the first few bites, then something about it made it not good enough to finish. Too much aoli on the other sandwiches.
Overall, out of 4 sandwiches we tried, not one was truly excellent, and 2 we could not finish because of the taste.
As those aren't cheap sandwiches (21$/ full sandwich or 11$ for the half), and the hype was high, this was a really disappointing lunch.
+ the 20min wait time to get the sandwiches is not too great if you're in a hurry

Would recommend this place without reservation. The atmosphere was chill, the menu had a good selection, and the prices were reasonable. And that’s before the sandwiches themselves - which were excellent. I can’t eat cheese, but it was happily swapped out and avocado offered instead, which was delicious. This place is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Hokitika.

OUTSTANDING sandwiches. We grabbed the Coaster for lunch and the ingredients were so fresh and vibrant, tucked in beautifully soft bread. A full managed to be the perfect amount for us to share. Refillable coffee with a board telling you where the beans are from and its notes. Really lovely staff who make an effort to remember names and a great local-feeling atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend to anyone passing through/staying in Hokitika.

Best sandwich I've had in NZ. Had a veggie half thinking I'd eat it and move on. It was so good that I had to have another half. Chose the med special, also amazing. Highly recommend. Staff were lovely too.

Vege Sandwich
This is a very unique place indeed. Joseph the owner has knowledge to burn. The atmosphere is great and options in sandwiches to burn as well. Can eat in or take away. Don’t ask for a expresso or Flat white as they have filter coffee only but coffee that is changed weekly and is from different places from around the world, but is made in nz. Look at the photos especially the Real Food black board that explains everything about this place.

Well worth the 35 minute wait, which we were warned about before we ordered. It is obviously a very popular place and for good reason. Our sandwiches were delicious and high quality. Milkshakes were a little on the small side but the chocolate had actual chocolate chunks in it, which made up for it. The staff were super friendly as well.

Amazing sandwiches (better than hyped places we’ve tried in Auckland). Got ‘The Beef’ and ‘The New Yorker’, loved both. Fresh ingredients and great staff. Worth the 30 min wait.

Great and big portion. We should have just ordered 1.5 for both of us. The ambience is nice. Could feel the staff are working happily. Super friendly and polite.
We ordered one full fish and one full new yorker. Happy with the quality.
Oh, usually when ordering they will say 15-20 mins wait time is required.
