If you want to remember Swannanoa Valley Museum, come to this bar first. Visit Trailhead for a break and order nicely cooked tenderloin, bacon and onion strings. Excellent fish and chips, friendly staff, and Ginger’s Revenge on draft! It was a cold day and the heat didn’t seem to be on, but I ate with my coat on and enjoyed every bite!! Wow.. i am blown away! We are exploring this town for the first time and trailhead was one of our first stops. This is a restaurant that puts their money where their mouth is. The menu is not your typical junky bar food. Its elegant, tasteful, and well thought out. I got the beer that was the special of the day and it was a delicious refreshing light beer that complimented all the food we got. My partner got a Moscow gin mule which was made with a heavy hand - it was a strong stiff drink. No skimping out here. We started with the mussel appetizer in red coconut curry broth served with a fresh baguette. I was literally slurping up the broth with a mussel shell. Second on our tasting was the onion rings. Some of the best onion rings I've ever had. We dipped them in ranch sauce. They were thin, crispy, and delicious. Perfectly fried. It reminded me of crispy French onions. The serving was plentiful. Last on our list was the black balsam knob. Grilled rare ahi tuna with sesame seeds served with asparagus, scallions, local sprouts, shaved carrots, cucumber, and ponzu. A highly flavorful dish with plenty of texture. Truly delectable. I wish I could try one of everything on the menu. Don't miss out on this small town gem. Always fantastic food and service. We arrived later in the evening tonight and weren't rushed out. We've ordered takeout plenty and dined in plenty of times before and there's never been an issue. We have a vegan family member and have ordered vegan many times in the past and they always accommodate! Margaritas are my go-to and they're always a hit at Trailhead. The burgers are TOP notch but you cannot go wrong with anything you order. They have an expansive, something-for-everyone menu. They also have amazing specials. The photo in this review is ribeye chilaquiles they had for a daily special. Incredible and only $9.95! Park on the street or across the street in the gravel lot by the church. We read the other reviews and decided to take a chance on the wait, boy should we have kept walking. Do not go if you are starving this is a S-L-O-W life restaurant. Arrived 1:10 Sat 1:30 Drinks 1:40 Order taken 1:50 Served 2:25 a few tables for their food before us. All four of us thought the food was well over cooked. I’ve never seen my dad rate so poorly. The fish and chips had good flavor just over fried. My burger came out not fit for a dog, by the way must have dog friendly outside they walk through the joint to get there. No refills the entire meal, the server did offer to take the burger off. I feel like more attention to the small things would make a big impact. Overall must be the beer that brings in the flock, not a small child friendly kind of place, only my opinion. If I come back would only be for the fries and I think the tacos looked good on the table next to us. Ask for a water cuz there ain’t no refills here. After dining at Trailhead last year we made sure to stop in again. Ever bit as pleased as before. One of the best burgers you can get.. anywhere! Worth the wait. Great place to stop in for some really good food. We grabbed a to-go order while enjoying a cold brew. Bartender was the nicest, most efficient I've had the pleasure to meet! Place was a bit more crowded than usual for a Monday, but I guess... leaves. Trailhead burger was very good and the nachos were excellent! Precious restaurant in black mountain with lovely outdoor seating. Dog friendly as well! We ordered delicious burgers with their apple cider cocktail special and pumpkin ale. Delicious! Staff was very friendly as well. Would definitely come back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Great local spot! The bar area reminded me of one of my favorite rock climbing gyms back home. I was expecting typical pub fare so I was in for a surprise! Pleasant downtown restaurant with an extensive and diverse menu. Full bar & variety of seating options, including patio seating. Staff were friendly, but service was fairly slow. It took me quite a while to get a refill of my Coke at lunch time. They seemed to be short staffed, as there were several open tables & my party of three had to wait to be seated. I had the daily special, which was shrimp tacos with beans. One of my party had the fish & chips dinner, which she said was buttery, light & flakey. Two single stall restrooms were clean and stocked. One of my party requested to hold the cilantro, but this did not happen. She had to pull huge sprigs out of her food. Otherwise, the food was good and reasonably priced.
